Older homes & renovations
Replacing old wiring throughout a house is major work — and not every older home needs it. We start by looking at what you actually have, then tell you honestly whether it's the whole house, part of it, or none of it.
No — and that's the honest starting point. An older house doesn't automatically need to be torn open and rewired end to end. What matters is the wiring that's actually installed, its condition, why you're considering a rewire in the first place, what changes you're making to the home, and whether the whole house or only a portion really needs updating.
If a complete rewire is genuinely warranted, we'll explain why. If only one section needs attention — a kitchen you're remodeling, an addition, a problem area — we'll tell you that instead of selling you a whole-home project you don't need. We do rewires for homeowners, remodels, additions, full renovations, contractors, property investors, and fix-and-flip projects, and the right scope is different for each.
Our professional recommendation
These are the situations where we typically recommend replacing the wiring throughout — as our professional recommendation based on your actual system and project, not because a rule says every such home must be rewired:
The oldest wiring method you'll find in Denver's older homes.
The smaller-gauge aluminum wiring run to outlets and switches in certain eras of homes.
Very old wiring whose insulation has aged, cracked, or broken down.
Wiring and systems that are simply too far behind what a modern home needs.
When you're already renovating extensively and modernizing the wiring makes sense to do at the same time.
When an owner or investor wants the whole system replaced so it's uniform, documented, and worry-free.
Even here, older wiring by itself doesn't automatically mean replacing everything. If an older system is still suitable and your project only affects one part of the home, we may recommend updating just that portion. And for ungrounded, two-prong systems, a full rewire is one option — but depending on the installation, there can be other compliant approaches. We'll walk you through what fits your home.
What you're actually getting
A real rewire means replacing the old branch wiring throughout the home — not patching a few new runs onto a tangle of old circuits and calling it a rewire. Depending on the approved scope, it generally includes:
New branch-circuit wiring across the home, with new 120-volt and 240-volt circuits where applicable, and dedicated circuits for major appliances and equipment.
New receptacles, switches, and electrical boxes replacing the old ones.
New breakers and circuit protection to match the new system.
Smoke and carbon-monoxide detection equipment as applicable to the project.
A properly labeled panel and circuits, so the finished system is documented — not a guessing game.
Complete electrical testing of the finished installation before we call it done.
Decorative light fixtures are normally provided by the homeowner unless your proposal specifically says otherwise — that way you pick the fixtures you actually want.
Does the panel have to go too?
A whole-home rewire does not automatically mean replacing your service equipment just to add work to the bill. We evaluate the existing panel, service size, meter and service equipment, main disconnect, and grounding and bonding, and judge whether they'll properly support the finished installation.
If your existing equipment is suitable, we keep it where it makes sense. If it genuinely needs updating to support the new system safely, we include it in the proposal and explain why. Rewires and panel and service upgrades do often happen together — but not always, and we won't tell you it's required when it isn't.
Planning it with you
Before a complete rewire, we do a detailed walk-through of the property and build the scope with you — whether "you" is the homeowner, the contractor, the investor, or a project manager. We go room by room and record what you want:
The lighting you want in each room, how many and what type, ceiling fans, and where the switches go.
Where you want outlets and switches — we incorporate your requested locations where it's practical.
Range, dryer, air conditioning, hot tubs, and other significant equipment locations.
Panel and service location, and future electrical plans — including EV charging — so today's rewire leaves room for tomorrow.
If you have specific locations in mind, we design around them where we can. If you'd rather leave it to us, we lay out a layout that meets the project's requirements. Either way, you know the plan before the work starts.
The part people forget
A complete rewire also means properly taking the old electrical system out of service — not leaving forgotten live wires in the walls. Old receptacles, boxes, and accessible wiring that's being replaced are removed where it's appropriate to do so.
Old wiring that genuinely can't be pulled out of finished construction is disconnected, de-energized, and safely handled so it's no longer part of the live system. The goal is simple and worth stating plainly: when we're done, your home runs on the new electrical system — not on a mix of new circuits and forgotten old wiring still carrying power.

Straight talk about your walls
Here's the honest part: rewiring a finished house normally requires opening some wall and/or ceiling access to route the new wiring. There's no way around that with the walls closed. What we can control is how carefully we do it.
We try to preserve as much of your existing drywall as reasonably possible. When conditions allow, we keep typical individual access openings to around 6×6 inches or smaller. Some routes — like crossing framing through a finished ceiling with no attic above — may need a narrow channel; we generally try to keep those roughly 2 inches wide, though how long depends on the route. We save usable drywall pieces when it's practical.
We can't guarantee exact opening sizes. Plaster, brittle drywall, framing, inaccessible areas, and surprises behind the walls all affect what an opening ends up looking like. We make the access we need to do the electrical work correctly — and no more than that.
Drywall repair is not included in a standard whole-home rewire — no patching, mudding, texturing, or painting. You can repair it yourself, hire a drywall contractor, or ask us for a referral when that's appropriate. We tell you this up front so it's never a surprise at the end.
The principle we work by: we don't open walls just because it's easier for us. We make the openings we need to complete the electrical work correctly, while preserving as much of your finished home as we reasonably can.
Respecting your home
In rooms we're actively working in, we move belongings away from the immediate work area when practical, shift things to a protected spot when needed, cover what remains with plastic, tape and protect the work areas, and contain debris as much as we reasonably can. We clean electrical debris out of the active areas as we go.
If you're living in the home, we clean the active areas at the end of each work period so the finished and safe parts of your house can reasonably be used. If the home is vacant or under a full renovation, protection may stay set up between stages when that makes sense. To be honest with you: during an active rewire we won't pretend the home looks untouched — drywall openings may be waiting on repair — but we keep it as controlled and clean as the work allows.
Can we stay during the work?
Often, yes — you can sometimes stay in the house while we work. We coordinate with you and, depending on the size and layout, work through the home section by section when that's practical.
Throughout the project we communicate: which area we're working in, what needs to stay clear, when the crew will be there, whether a section may temporarily lose power, and when an area is safe to use again. At the end of each workday, active areas are cleaned and the electrical work is left in a safe condition.
An honest expectation: a whole-home rewire is a construction project, and it can be disruptive. We won't promise normal, uninterrupted power throughout — but we will keep you informed the whole way, so you always know where we're working, what to avoid, and what to expect next.
How long it takes
Complete rewires generally happen in stages, and the schedule depends on your specific home. As a general guide from our own projects:
Running the new wiring throughout, depending on home size, layout, construction, access, and complexity.
The wall and ceiling repair happens here — by you or a drywall contractor — before we come back for the finish work.
Installing devices, fixtures, and finish components, then energizing and testing, depending on project size and complexity.
We won't quote you a one-size total timeline — drywall repair, other trades, changes you make along the way, inspections where applicable, and the condition of the property all affect the schedule. What we will do is establish the expected schedule for your specific project before work begins.
Start to finish
Every project is a little different, but a typical whole-home rewire runs like this:
Initial estimate, then a detailed property walk-through to understand the home and what you want.
We design the electrical plan and give you a proposal with a clear, approved scope.
We protect the work areas, then run the new wiring throughout the home.
We transition the old wiring out of service safely as the new system goes in.
Wall and ceiling repair by you or a drywall contractor, then we return.
We install devices and finish components, energize, test, label the panel and circuits, and do final quality-control testing.
We clean up and walk you through the finished system before we go.
On an occupied home, we may keep parts of the existing system running while new rough work is underway when it's practical and safe — though we can't make absolute promises about temporary power during a rewire.
